Today, we’re spotlighting one of those people: John Galloway, a passionate advocate for military history and the force behind a few remarkable custom coin projects.
A Mission of Remembrance
John Galloway’s work revolves around remembrance; not just dates on a calendar, but the people, symbols, and battles that shaped our country. A proud Nevadan and dedicated historian, John has made it his mission to ensure future generations remember the heroism of the USS Nevada (BB-36) and the legacy of the “Battle Born State.”
Through his involvement with the YoutTube channel “Tribute Flight 250”, which commemorates the lives of fallen service members, John uses powerful storytelling and custom-crafted pieces to make history tangible.
The USS Nevada BB-36 Coin: A Tribute in Metal
The first of John’s coins pays homage to one of America’s most decorated battleships, the USS Nevada.
Key Features of the Coin:
- Side A showcases the USS Nevada cutting through waves, framed by a bold American flag motif. Two dates — December 7, 1941 and June 6, 1944 — mark its heroic service at Pearl Harbor and D-Day.
- Side B features the ship’s name with a central trident symbol and the inscription “The Battle Born State’s Battleship,” surrounded by stars and campaign references: WWI, WWII, and D-Day.
At 2 inches in diameter and finished with high-polished silver and recessed metal, this coin captures history with striking depth and clarity.
The Battle Born Shield Coin: Honoring Nevada’s Military Legacy
The second project, designed in the shape of a shield, celebrates Nevada’s sesquicentennial and the legacy of its military service members.
Key Features of the Coin:
- Side A presents the bold “Battle Born Shield” design featuring the Nevada Wolf Pack logo and a 3D concave structure surrounded by 36 stars — Nevada’s order of statehood.
- Side B marks 150 years of the University of Nevada (1874–2024) and ties the state’s higher education and military heritage together in one meaningful design.
At 2.5 inches tall and finished in high-polished silver with recessed detailing, the shield-shaped coin is both a commemorative keepsake and a piece of state pride.
